Slackbot, the reminder tool, gets transformed into an AI assistant by Slack

Share

The company recently revealed that another AI-focused innovation, the redesigned Slackbot, will be released by team communication platform Slack.

Thus far, the Slackbot tool has only functioned as a simple reminder and recommendation system, providing users with personalized yet uncomplicated guidance, such as alerting them when a Google Doc might need to be made publicly available. It will now have many AI features and be a full-fledged chatbot.

In 2025, AI technology appears to be inevitable in numerous ways, this being just the latest example.

How Does the Most Recent Slackbot Appear?

The updated Slackbot is now being tested and will appear as a chat box on the right side of Slack. The Verge claims that users can choose to start it by clicking on the Slackbot icon, which is located at the top of the platform, next to the search bar.

The AI Slackbot will function exactly like all the other text-based generative AI chatbots you’re probably acquainted with, such as ChatGPT and Gemini, once it’s launched.

The material the bot is using makes a significant difference. All of your prior files and chats will be accessible to Slackbot, which it can use to customize its responses.

What Can SlackBot Do?

According to a Slack demo, the updated Slackbot AI can help users with the following tasks:

Gather information from specific Slack channels to develop a launch strategy.
Help create a social media plan that complements the tone of a brand and help users find a file even if they don’t know its name, like “Show me all the files shared in our last standup.”
The tool will also be able to connect to Microsoft Outlook and Google Calendar to make scheduling meetings easier.

It’s unclear what the tool can do; for example, will it be able to track file sharing during a Google Meet meeting rather than Slack’s Huddle video meeting feature?

Slack Guarantees to Protect Your Data

Rob Seaman, chief product officer of Slack at Salesforce, stated that the new AI features will operate within the virtual private cloud of Amazon Web Services, “meaning that no data leaves the firewall, [and] no data is used in the training of the models at all.”

Slack users can choose whether or not to use the new Slackbot. Employees of those companies won’t have the option to opt out, though, if the tool is made available (apart from just not opening it).

Salesforce plans to make the new Slackbot available to all users by the end of 2025, although it is currently only using it internally.
